At Road 2 A Cure, we believe it is necessary to take the time to stop and check in on our own progress, acknowledge accomplishments made so far in relation to our mission and see how far we have to go on other goals.

Honesty is the only policy in our book so we want to fill you in on where we are at, right now. You deserve to know about the work that is behind our talk. You also deserve credit for contributing to our accomplishments-- Thank you all! To date we have accomplished the following:

  • Solidified Road 2 A Cure Organizational Structure:

We have appointed our Executive Officers, our Board of Directors, and additional Advisors. All have been chosen for having specific skills that we believe are essential to helping us achieve our goals of raising awareness, promoting pancreatic cancer research and driving funds to where the most important scientific work in the field is being done. At the core of our organization is the belief that there is an urgency to make people aware that survivorship is a very real possibility.

  • Achieved Non-Profit status:

We have succeeded in achieving formal 501(c)(3) non-profit status for the Company which ensures that all of your donations are tax deductible. You help us out. We help you out.

  • Provide Hope and Help to survivors and their families:

Through personal contacts and appearances at numerous events within both the pancreatic cancer and motorcycle community (events include symposium’s, walks, galas, rotary and bike club meetings, poker runs and rallies, Daytona & Sturgis bike week, etc.), we have spread hope and helped hundreds by providing them with answers to questions that are not addressed in a public forum often enough. This is central to our mission and we will work to ensure the results of this effort grow exponentially in the coming year. Our voice of hope will only get louder and the numbers of survivors we will help will multiply by the hundreds. Stay Tuned for more on this.

  • Raise Awareness:

Through past Road2ACure events (The California Ride, P.A.M.'s Run, Families on the Road 2 A Cure, Summer Luau, etc.), the Road2ACure website, and publicity that we have garnered (Thunder Press and Ventura Star articles, multiple radio interviews locally and nationally, press releases sent to all healthcare, motorcycle and cancer related web publications, etc.), we have made contact with literally 10s of 1000s of people.

  • In addition, Chris and Jennifer Calaprice (Road 2 A Cure founders), were also in Washington DC in 2009, 2008 and 2007 with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - speaking to Senators and House Representatives to raise their awareness about the paucity of federal research monies available for pancreatic cancer research, the desperate need for increased funding, and the fact that survivorship exists and hope is feasible. This year we were successful in obtaining signatures to continue November as National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month as well as introducing HR 745 - The Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act, which will facilitate the National Cancer Institute’s path to a cure for pancreatic cancer.

  • Moving forward we will continue to use the above methods in bigger and better ways. We have been working very hard over the last few months on a website re-launch which is now live. We wanted to make people's experience on the website more engaging. For instance, Road TV allows you to share your story with the world as well as view Road 2 A Cure videos, photos, and all future realities from the upcoming Tour. We have also started taking advantage of the social media at our fingertips. This month we have joined Facebook, and Twitter and posted a new video on YouTube. There is much more to come through these facets. Check us out at these sites regularly for the latest information about what we are up to. Finally, we have been gearing up for the big 50 State tour where we will take our Awareness campaign cross country. Road 2A Cure is coming to a city near in you 2010 so look out for us.

  • Collected and Expected Research Funds:

To date we have given a total of $23,639.43 towards Pancreatic Cancer Familial Research (CAPS-3 Study). CAPS-3 stands for Cancer of the Pancreas Screening and the goals of the study are 1. to find the best and most sensitive screening modality (CT, MRI, EUS) for small pre-cancerous pancreatic lesions, and to treat these small lesions before they turn into cancer, and 2. to search for a gene mutation, or chemical markers that can be linked with the development of pancreatic cancer. To date, this study has already eradicated pre-cancerous cells in two participants congratulations. We plan on continuing to put our monies raised towards Good Science in pancreatic cancer. We are in daily contact with potential and real donors, and continue to plan events and actions to publicize our work. Thank you all so much for your support and interest in our mission to bring pancreatic cancer to the forefront of public discussion. We believe it is desperately needed and hope that you will find as much satisfaction and joy in working toward it’s achievement as we are. See you on the Road 2 A Cure!
